Conference Marking 30th Anniversary of Turkmenistan-Malaysia Oil and Gas Cooperation Held in Ashgabat

At the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim, the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Turkmenistan – Malaysia: 30 Years of Mutually Beneficial Cooperation in the Oil and Gas Industry" and an exhibition dedicated to the Turkmen-Malaysian partnership organized within its framework were held. This was reported by the online newspaper "Turkmenistan: The Golden Age."

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was given the floor first to speak at the plenary session of the conference.

First of all, the head of state thanked the head of government of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim for accepting the invitation to visit Turkmenistan on an official visit, for the constructive talks held, and for participation in the current conference. All of this once again demonstrates the strategic significance of the bilateral partnership in the oil and gas sphere.

Cooperation in this area, in turn, serves as the most important factor of long-term economic and investment cooperation between our countries. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the partnership between Turkmenistan and Malaysia in the oil and gas sphere.

The Malaysian company Petronas plays a significant role in this endeavor: over the years of its operations in our country, the company has invested approximately 12 billion US dollars in the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan.

One of the most important achievements of Petronas and Turkmen partners over the years of joint operations in the Caspian Sea has been the extraction of more than 44 billion cubic meters of gas and 16 million tons of liquid hydrocarbons.

In conclusion, President Serdar congratulated the conference participants on the 30th anniversary of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Malaysia in the oil and gas sphere, wishing everyone success and new achievements.

The floor was then given to Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim.

First of all, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, on behalf of the people of Malaysia, expressed gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Government, and the fraternal people of Turkmenistan, noting that Malaysia highly values the relations established between our states, based on mutual trust, respect, and the aspiration for joint development.

Over the past thirty years, Petronas has made a significant contribution to the development of Turkmenistan's infrastructure, including the modernization of the oil and gas complex. This success rests on the principal foundation — the training of highly qualified specialists. The exchange of experience and personnel training are of enormous importance for both states. Today, Turkmenistan and Petronas are demonstrating to the entire world a fine example of reliable and long-term partnership.

Upon the conclusion of the plenary session, the President of the country and the distinguished guest familiarized themselves with the exhibition dedicated to Turkmen-Malaysian cooperation.

First of all, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the distinguished guest visited the pavilion dedicated to the 30th anniversary of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the company Petronas. Here, a representative of the company provided detailed information about the main results of the thirty-year partnership, the introduction of advanced technologies into production, and the progress of the implementation of joint long-term projects in the field of deep processing of hydrocarbon resources.

Upon the conclusion of the familiarization with the exhibition, a ceremony for the signing of bilateral documents took place with the participation of the President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
