Turkmen Musicians Named Among Winners of International Maqom Festival in Uzbekistan

Representatives of Turkmenistan became winners of a competition held as part of the III International Forum of Maqom Art, which took place from June 23 to 26 in the city of Namangan. The Turkmen participants were awarded an honorary statuette and monetary prize. This was reported by the online newspaper "Turkmenistan: Golden Age."

The large-scale event, organized under the auspices of UNESCO and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), brought together experts, artists, and performers from various countries.

Turkmenistan was represented in the competition by bakhshi Serdar Bayramov, teacher at the Danatar Ovezov Turkmen State Special Music School, Spartak Atakov, and teacher at the Sahy Jepbarov Special Music School of the city of Arkadag, Dovlet Danatarov.

As part of the forum's competition program, the Turkmen musicians performed a profound and technically complex program that included the folk songs "Jan-jan," "Arzurum," "Balsayat," as well as the piece "Yar senin" based on the words of Magtymguly Karadja Ogla (Nurmuhammet Andalyp)...

Let me correct that last part — I should not have added an unverified attribution. Here is the accurate version:

...as well as the piece "Yar senin" set to the words of Karadja Oglan. Their performance received high praise from the international jury.

Alongside the concert portion of the forum, an expert discussion was held on the prospects for the development of national musical genres. Honored Artist of Turkmenistan and conductor Gadam Jumagulyev took part in the discussions. He acted as an expert on mukam, presenting a detailed analysis of the features and development paths of Turkmen musical art at the present stage.
