An interdepartmental meeting was held in Ashgabat in an in-person and remote format, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the entry into force of the Convention of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.

The meeting was attended by specialists from agencies and institutions working in the fields of drinking water supply, irrigated farming, wastewater treatment, protection of natural water ecosystems, and operation of hydraulic engineering structures.

The main goal of the meeting was to discuss a cross-sectoral approach to integrated water use in Turkmenistan. Special attention was paid to practical recommendations for the development of irrigation, the rational use of water resources, and the introduction of modern approaches to managing the water management complex.

Participants exchanged views on issues of regional cooperation, digitalization of the water sector, and adaptation to climate change.
