Turkmenistan and the International Labour Organization discussed the development of practical cooperation

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on July 2nd between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Director of the International Labour Standards Department of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Corinne Vargha. This was reported by a press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International Labour Organization. It was noted that interaction with the Organization is an important direction of the international partnership of Turkmenistan, contributing to the improvement of national labor legislation, the development of social partnership, and the implementation of international labor standards.

In this context, the importance of implementing the Roadmap for Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International Labour Organization for 2026 was noted.

It was emphasized that issues of cooperation with the International Labour Organization are included in the agenda of the Interdepartmental Commission on Ensuring the Fulfillment of Turkmenistan’s International Obligations in the Field of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law. Turkmenistan’s commitment to fulfilling the obligations arising from membership in the ILO was reaffirmed.

The parties also noted the significance of expanding project cooperation with specialized UN agencies, including the ILO, and also confirmed their readiness for the further development of practical cooperation, including on the issues of opening a representative office of the Organization in Turkmenistan.

Particular attention was paid to the positive dynamics of interaction between the National Center of Trade Unions of Turkmenistan and the Bureau for Workers' Activities of the ILO (ACTRAV), aimed at developing social dialogue and promoting international labor standards.

Following the results of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening the partnership between Turkmenistan and the International Labour Organization in all areas of mutual interest.
