Turkmenistan's delegation is participating in the High-Level Political Forum held under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen delegation is headed by Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy Perhat Yagshiyev. It also includes representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics.

The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development is the UN's main global platform for assessing implementation of the 2030 Agenda. Since 2015, the forum has annually brought together governments, international organizations, business, and civil society to coordinate steps toward achieving the SDGs.

This year's forum theme is "Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for building resilience and accelerating progress towards a sustainable future for all."

At the ministerial meeting of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development held on July 13, 2026, heads of UN bodies and representatives of civil society presented their policy statements.

Opening the ministerial segment, ECOSOC President Bob Rae and UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the global significance of the SDGs, pointing to the need for deep reform of the international financial system for the successful implementation of the Agenda. In turn, UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock called for solidarity in defending the UN Charter as part of the "Better Together" initiative, while youth movement representative Jaehyun Choi highlighted the importance of intergenerational fairness in the distribution of global financing.

The 2026 High-Level Political Forum is conducting an in-depth analysis of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda across cluster goals, including SDG 6, SDG 7, SDG 9, SDG 11, and SDG 17.

The international community paid particular attention to overcoming water scarcity and developing coordinated steps ahead of the upcoming Global Water Summit in Abu Dhabi in December. Discussions on the energy and climate agenda confirmed the need to accelerate the energy transition and ensure reliable access to clean energy sources. When addressing issues of industrial and urban infrastructure, delegates emphasized the importance of financial support for small businesses, reducing the digital divide, and introducing environmentally friendly technologies in cities. Mobilizing financial resources under the cross-cutting SDG 17 serves as the systemic foundation for achieving these objectives.

Following the multilateral discussions, the UN High-Level Political Forum will adopt a final document assessing global progress in implementing the 2030 Agenda. At the current session, 36 states are presenting their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs).

For Turkmenistan, which successfully presented its VNRs in 2019 and 2023, participation in the forum under ECOSOC auspices holds important practical significance. The current visit is directly linked to systematic preparations for the defense of Turkmenistan's third VNR in 2027. The UN platform serves as an effective venue for Turkmen experts to gain advanced international experience in monitoring and implementing SDG indicators.
