Parliamentary diplomacy promotes further strengthening of multifaceted cooperation between Turkmenistan and Korea

Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova met with the visiting delegation led by Cho Hyun-dong, Head of the Korean-Turkmen Interparliamentary Friendship Group. These talks marked a particularly significant step toward qualitatively improving and elevating the bilateral cooperation between the two nations to new heights. This was reported by the press service of the legislative body of Turkmenistan.

During the talks, the parties highly praised the current state of political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian relations between the two countries. In this context, the immense role of the historical working visits of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to the Republic of Korea in strengthening the strategic nature of relations was particularly emphasized.

The guests were thoroughly familiarized with the key directions of Turkmenistan's foreign policy based on the principles of positive neutrality and peacefulness, as well as the legislative work in the country. Concurrently, the parties highly appreciated Turkmenistan’s significant initiative to declare 2028 as the "Year of International Law" at the plenary session of the 80th landmark session of the UN General Assembly, and the role of the "Central Asia–Republic of Korea" interparliamentary forum, established at the initiative of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, in strengthening regional peace and trust.

Furthermore, as part of the visit, a special meeting was organized between the Turkmen-Korean interparliamentary friendship groups and relevant committees to discuss concrete mechanisms for the practical improvement of cooperation. The opportunities for exchanging experience in the legislative sphere and providing mutual support in the international arena through parliamentary diplomacy were extensively analyzed.

Highly effective progress in joint activities within trade-economic relations, energy, transport and logistics, shipbuilding, digitalization, and high-tech sectors was noted with satisfaction during the meeting. It was emphasized that the activities of the Turkmen-Korean Business Council and the Intergovernmental Commission align with the long-term bilateral interests of both countries.

Great attention was also paid to relations in the humanitarian field, particularly education and language learning. The fact that young Turkmen citizens are currently studying in South Korea, and the Korean language is widely taught in secondary schools across our country as well as at the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages named after Dovletmammet Azadi, demonstrates the strong stability of cultural friendship and reinforces the confidence that these active relations will be further strengthened in the future through parliamentary diplomacy.
