On July 24, during a Cabinet of Ministers meeting chaired by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov delivered a comprehensive report on the priority positions of our country at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. Supporting the prepared proposals, the Head of State emphasized the importance of comprehensively developing strategic cooperation with the UN and ensuring high-level preparations for the session. This was reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
One of Turkmenistan's key focus areas at this session will be strengthening global peace and security. Our country will propose holding intergovernmental consultations to draft a Global Peace Strategy under the auspices of the UN and declaring the years 2027–2037 as the "Decade of Dialogue and Preventive Diplomacy." Furthermore, preliminary work will be carried out to establish a Group of Friends of Multilateralism and Sovereign Equality of States, as well as an Academic Center for Peace, Neutrality, and Preventive Diplomacy.
In science, education, and technology, Turkmenistan will propose drafting an International Code on the Peaceful Use of Artificial Intelligence in International Relations. Concurrently, plans are underway to host an expert dialogue in Ashgabat on digital trust and the responsible use of artificial intelligence, as well as to submit a draft of a new resolution on the role of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.
In the fields of sustainable development, transport, and environmental protection, Turkmenistan will put forward proposals to create a Global Atlas of Sustainable Transport Connectivity, implement the Avaza Program, and establish an International Center for Sustainable Trade Logistics and Customs Cooperation under the auspices of the UN. On the environmental front, the plans include creating the Ashgabat Climate Dialogue, strengthening the climate resilience of arid regions, and preparing for the high-level forum "Sustainable Energy for All."
In the humanitarian sphere and the strengthening of international law, initiatives will be presented to support the Central Asian Women's Dialogue and Youth Dialogue, as well as to declare 2028 as the "Year of International Law." Additionally, Turkmenistan will actively continue its membership in the UN Economic and Social Council for 2026–2028 and conduct preparatory work regarding its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2031–2032. The prepared document will be forwarded to the UN Secretariat and circulated among member states.
