On July 29, meetings were held in Ashgabat with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to Turkmenistan (with residence in Ankara), Boumediene Guennad. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the diplomat presented copies of his credentials to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mähri Bäşimowa, after which, on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan D. Gulmanowa accepted his credentials.
During the talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the parties reviewed the prospects for developing ties in political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. They emphasized the importance of regular contacts between the foreign ministries, as well as organizing meetings at the highest and high levels. Agriculture and the textile industry were highlighted among the key areas of economic cooperation. The diplomats agreed to facilitate the participation of business circles from both countries in international exhibitions and forums in Ashgabat and Algiers, as well as to expand contacts in culture, education, sports, and tourism.
During the meeting at the Parliament of Turkmenistan the Algerian Ambassador conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The Chairperson of the Mejlis introduced the diplomat to the key areas of the country's domestic and foreign policy, the structure of the parliament, and its legislative activities. The parties noted the significant potential for developing inter-parliamentary dialogue and exchanging experience in improving national legislation.
In addition, the representative of Algeria and the Turkmen side reaffirmed their commitment to continuing constructive partnership within international structures, primarily the UN, to promote global peace, security, and sustainable development.
