As part of his regular working visit to Thailand, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Malaysia (concurrently to the Kingdom of Thailand) Muhammetnyyaz Mashalov met with Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) and Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), at the UNESCAP headquarters in Bangkok. This was reported on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the current state and priority areas for further development of the long-standing effective cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCAP were discussed. The parties paid special attention to key issues such as ensuring sustainable development, expanding economic relations, adapting to climate change, and jointly combating desertification.
During the conversation, initiatives put forward by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, were discussed—in particular, proposals to establish a Regional Center for Combating Desertification for Central Asian countries in Ashgabat. In addition, the importance of the participation of a high-level delegation of Turkmenistan in the UN Climate Change Conference (COP17) conference to be held in Mongolia in August 2026, as well as in the 83rd session of UNESCAP to take place in Shanghai in April 2027, was emphasized.
