On July 30, a meeting took place between Dunyagozel Gulmanova, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, and Xiaojun Grace Wang, the newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the Head of the National Parliament congratulated Xiaojun Grace Wang on her appointment as UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan and wished her success in this responsible diplomatic role in further developing the fruitful cooperation established between Turkmenistan and the UN.
Xiaojun Grace Wang was introduced to the key priorities of Turkmenistan’s domestic and foreign policy—founded on the principles of positive neutrality, peacefulness, humanism, and mutual trust—as well as the composition of the Mejlis and its multifaceted work to strengthen the legal framework supporting the country's ongoing systemic reforms.
It was emphasized during the meeting that support at the plenary session of the milestone 80th session of the UN General Assembly for Turkmenistan’s initiative to declare 2028 the «Year of International Law» will be of crucial importance for elevating the role of international law globally, ensuring universal peace and security, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and advancing effective multilateral cooperation. Furthermore, it will provide a positive impetus for consolidating the efforts of nations worldwide in the interest of all humanity. Special attention was also devoted to the significance of Turkmenistan's key initiatives aimed at ensuring energy security, developing transit-transport corridors, and protecting the environment.
The parties noted the consistent and highly effective nature of the partnership between Turkmenistan and the United Nations, alongside its specialized agencies. It was underscored that joint educational seminars and meetings organized by the Mejlis of Turkmenistan together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the Population Fund (UNFPA)—focusing on human rights and freedoms, reproductive health, family well-being, environmental protection, climate change, and sustainable water management—played a significant role in knowledge sharing and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Chairperson of the Mejlis Dunyagozel Gulmanova invited UN Resident Coordinator Xiaojun Grace Wang to participate as an honored guest in the Women’s Dialogue and the Conference on Demographic Issues. These events will take place in the National Tourist Zone «Awaza» within the framework of Turkmenistan's chairmanship of the CIS and the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
