President of Turkmenistan Receives Vice President, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation

On August 5, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Ignazio Cassis, Vice President of the Swiss Confederation, which currently chairs the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

Expressing sincere gratitude for the hospitality extended, the Swiss Vice President and foreign minister emphasized the OSCE's immense interest in building constructive cooperation with Turkmenistan, which pursues a policy aimed at ensuring global peace and sustainable development. In this regard, high praise was given to our country’s initiatives to expand international partnership on the principles of peace-loving policy.

The guest also shared his pleasant impressions of the architectural appearance of the Turkmen capital, the city of Ashgabat, and the "Avaza" National Tourist Zone.

Thanking the guest for his kind words, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that this visit to our country is viewed as an important milestone in the development of relations between Turkmenistan, the OSCE, and the Swiss Confederation.

As was emphasized, the Turkmen state advocates the intensification of international cooperation to ensure peace and sustainable development at both regional and global dimensions. In this context, Turkmenistan attaches special importance to coordinating efforts within the framework of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

Noting the current constructive dynamics of interaction between our country and the OSCE, the Head of State highlighted the regular nature of measures implemented on the basis of cooperation programs that are jointly developed annually by the Government of Turkmenistan and the OSCE Center in Ashgabat.

At the same time, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov specially emphasized the importance attached at the state level to ensuring human rights and democratic principles in Turkmenistan, expressing the expediency of further partnership within the OSCE to continue relevant work and study international practice in this area.

"We possess favorable conditions for expanding cooperation in such areas as ensuring safe and reliable energy supplies to world markets, creating conditions for sustainable economic growth, fully utilizing the potential in the transport sector, environmental protection, and the rational use of water resources," President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stated. Speaking on this, the Head of State reaffirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to expand interaction with the OSCE for the sake of further ensuring peace and sustainable development on the planet.

Continuing, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the current productive nature of relations between Turkmenistan and the Swiss Confederation, as well as our country's interest in the consistent development of bilateral cooperation in political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. In this context, Turkmenistan expressed its readiness to consider specific proposals from the Swiss side. Taking this opportunity, the Head of State once again congratulated Ignazio Cassis and the Swiss people on the recently celebrated Swiss National Day.

Expressing sincere appreciation for the congratulations, the guest highlighted the foreign policy pursued by Turkmenistan as exemplary for the entire world and reaffirmed the tremendous importance Switzerland attaches to the consistent development of interstate cooperation.
