On August 23, National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, thoroughly inspected the ongoing work at the International Scientific and Clinical Oncology Center, which is currently in its final construction phase. The opening of this modern medical complex is scheduled for the Day of Health and Medical Industry Workers during the year marking the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan's sacred Independence, according to the electronic newspaper Turkmenistan: Golden Age.
Upon arrival at the complex, the National Leader was welcomed by Minister of Health and Medical Industry Myratberdi Gayypov and construction head Nurmuhammet Amannepesov. Observing the exterior layout and landscaping, the Hero-Arkadag emphasized applying a scientific approach to creating green spaces. He also reviewed featured project sketches, including units for radiodiagnostics, endoscopy, and radiopharmaceutical production.
During the visit, a meeting was held with renowned German doctor-professors from university clinics and private medical centers, Fritz Spelsberg and Susanne Spelsberg. The German experts noted the vast capabilities of the center's equipment for oncology prevention and treatment, as well as the full compliance of its liquid radioactive waste disposal system with high international standards.
Highlighting Turkmenistan's fruitful cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the National Leader announced the preparation of a new Country Programme Framework for 2026–2030. This document will support the adoption of innovative nuclear medicine technologies and enhance safety levels. Turkmenistan's commitment to the peaceful use of atomic energy was also highly praised during an April meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi in Austria.
While touring the facility, the Doctor-Arkadag stressed the need to fully leverage artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and high-speed internet. He offered guidance on making patient information digitally accessible to families and maintaining strict ventilation and hygiene controls. He also underlined the importance of joint initiatives between the Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University and foreign experts to train young medical professionals.
The Hero-Arkadag suggested studying the proposal to construct a new medical town in the northern part of the capital — within the Choganly residential complex — similar to the health complex in southern Ashgabat. Instructing officials to organize an international scientific and practical conference on key oncology topics following the opening ceremony, the National Leader wished the executives success in their work.
Building state-of-the-art medical facilities, outfitting them with advanced equipment, and training highly qualified doctors remain top priorities of the state policy.
