Representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan participated in an international conference of young parliamentarians

Representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan took part in the 12th World Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held on September 4–5, 2026, in Samarkand, the Republic of Uzbekistan. The international meeting became an important platform for exchanging experience, developing cooperation and holding constructive discussions on youth rights protection. This was reported by the press service of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.

The international conference focused on such important issues as strengthening the role of youth in political and public life, increasing the participation of young parliamentarians in legislative activities and public administration, as well as ensuring their rights and equal opportunities. During the event, participants exchanged views on promoting mutual trust, peace and regional cooperation among young people, as well as increasing the activity of the younger generation in public life.

At the opening ceremony of the conference, participants discussed the protection of youth rights and freedoms, strengthening the legal framework of youth policy and creating conditions for the full realization of young people’s potential. The importance of providing comprehensive support to youth in achieving sustainable development of states was also emphasized.

During one of the panel sessions, a representative of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan delivered a speech highlighting the measures carried out in the country under the leadership of the esteemed President to protect the rights and legitimate interests of youth and women and to strengthen their role in society. Particular attention was paid to the existing legislative framework for ensuring the rights of youth and women, expanding their participation in public administration and various sectors of the economy, as well as developing cooperation with international organizations.

The conference addressed issues related to expanding political opportunities for youth around the world, protecting their rights and interests, and strengthening their role in public life. Participants exchanged views on the importance of ensuring the economic independence of young people, protecting their rights in the labour market and supporting young entrepreneurs, while putting forward relevant proposals.

The discussions also covered challenges arising in the era of new technologies, digital accessibility, information security, development of new skills among young people and improvement of the legal framework in this area. The participants also discussed the active role of youth in international environmental initiatives. The importance of youth proposals aimed at addressing climate change, protecting the environment, ensuring sustainable development and preserving a clean environment for future generations was emphasized.
