President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, as part of his state visit to the Republic of Korea, met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Woo Won Shik. This was reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
Warmly welcoming the high-ranking Turkmen guest, Woo Won Shik emphasized the significance of the current state visit of the head of Turkmenistan, noting that its results would open a new page in the history of inter-parliamentary ties and interstate relations.
Expressing satisfaction with the meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Korea, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov conveyed greetings from the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag.
Addressing best wishes to the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, the head of the National Assembly stressed that it was precisely during the period of leadership of the National Leader of the Turkmen people over Turkmenistan that interstate dialogue reached a new level. The solid foundation laid in trade and economic relations during that period is today contributing to the implementation of joint initiatives.
As was emphasized, among the main directions of multifaceted Turkmen-Korean cooperation are inter-parliamentary ties. In this context, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the importance of contacts at the parliamentary level, which serve as one of the important mechanisms for strengthening mutual trust and understanding between the countries and peoples.
Particular emphasis was placed on the activities of the Turkmen-Korean Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group. As noted by the head of state, the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea have been cooperating consistently since 2015, making a significant contribution to the development of interstate cooperation.
The meeting went on to discuss the significance of the initiative put forward in 2023 by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Hero-Arkadag, to create a new format of inter-parliamentary cooperation. In this context, it was emphasized that the first Turkmen-Korean consultative meeting of representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea took place in September of that same year, and the second meeting took place in October 2024.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Speaker of the National Assembly Woo Won Shik, expressing confidence that the traditionally friendly Turkmen-Korean relations would continue to develop across a wide range of areas for the benefit of the two countries and peoples, exchanged best wishes.
Afterward, the head of Turkmenistan and the head of the Parliament of the Republic of Korea posed for a commemorative photograph together with members of the delegation of our country and representatives of the National Assembly of the friendly state.
