Turkmenistan and the EU outlined key cooperation priorities for 2026

On February 17, 2026, a briefing on Turkmenistan–European Union cooperation was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. During the event, the results of interaction in 2025 were summarized, and the key partnership priorities for 2026 were outlined.

The briefing paid special attention to project and program cooperation. The active implementation of about 30 bilateral and regional EU projects in Turkmenistan was noted in the areas of ecology, digitalization, transport, rule of law, and private sector support.

Among the key areas of interaction were identified interparliamentary dialogue, Human Rights Dialogue, cooperation in education and science—including the DARYA initiative and engagement with the “Horizon Europe” program—as well as the development of transport connectivity and the Trans-Caspian route.

The main events planned for 2026 were also outlined, including interparliamentary dialogue, Human Rights Dialogue, a meeting of the EU–Turkmenistan Joint Committee, a ministerial meeting “EU — Central Asia,” and other sectoral events.

Following the briefing, the mutual interest of the EU and Turkmenistan in further developing and practically implementing cooperation in 2026 was reaffirmed.
