Development of culture in Turkmenistan: Deputy Prime Minister’s report for the first two months of 2026
At the regular Cabinet of Ministers meeting held via digital system on March 6, Deputy Prime Minister B. Seyidova reported on the results of activities in the cultural sector for January–February 2026. As reported, during this period, various events and celebrations were held to mark the declaration of the 2026 motto, “Independent, Neutral Turkmenistan – the Homeland of Determined Winged Horses,” the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence, as well as other holidays and significant dates of the national calendar. Film screenings and concerts were organized in cinemas and film concert centers in the capital. Cultural services were provided in libraries, museums, and historical and cultural complexes. During this period, the Interstate Competition of Television Films “Bedew bady: güç hem gözellik” for the participating countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States was announced. Additionally, the "Türkmenfilm" Association named after Oguz han organized a series of events and celebrations in cultural centers of Ashgabat and the velayats, including a Week of Films produced during the years of independence. In the capital, a ceremonial forum was held to award two special prizes by the international organization TURKSOY to the film “Composer,” produced with the support of the Charitable Fund for Assisting Children in Need of Care named after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. At the Palace of Mukams of the State Cultural Center, a joint cultural event “Ýüpek Ýoly Karnawaly – Bahar Baýramy Festiwaly” took place with the participation of artists from Turkmenistan and China. In Rome, Italy, the archaeological exhibition “Ancient Civilizations of Turkmenistan” continues to operate. After hearing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of further developing the cultural sector in line with modern requirements, including extensive use of digital systems in libraries, museums, and other cultural centers. The head of state also instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to continue work aimed at the careful preservation and study of historical and cultural monuments, and to properly prepare for the high-level implementation of upcoming cultural events.
