Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova held a meeting with the Regional Director of the International Labour Organization for Europe and Central Asia, Mr. Peter Van Roy. At the meeting, held on March 11 in the building of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the international significance of the humanitarian domestic and foreign policy of permanently neutral Turkmenistan was emphasized, as well as the initiatives promoted within the framework of the United Nations. It was noted that our country considers strengthening international law, improving the system of international regulation, and increasing the effectiveness of implementing acceded conventions, concluded agreements, arrangements, and other multilateral documents as a fundamental condition.
During the meeting, directions for further activation of multilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan, the United Nations and its structures, as well as the International Labour Organization, were discussed. In particular, the positive results of work within the framework of the “Roadmap” for cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the International Labour Organization for 2024–2025 were noted, and plans provided in the “Roadmap” for 2026 were discussed.
From the Turkmen side, information was presented on work being carried out to modernize labor legislation, legislation concerning human rights, child protection, and social protection of the population, taking into account accumulated experience and universally recognized international standards, as well as the norms of international treaties acceded to by Turkmenistan, implemented into national legislation.
The Regional Director of the International Labour Organization for Europe and Central Asia highly appreciated the results achieved in this field in Turkmenistan and expressed his views on further cooperation in the near future.
