The House of Representatives of Tajikistan ratified on Monday an agreement with Turkmenistan on cooperation in the field of railway transport. This is reported by the official website of the Parliament of Tajikistan.
The agreement was signed on August 4, 2021 following high-level talks in Ashgabat.
The document regulates direct international rail traffic between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan and defines uniform legal norms in direct international rail traffic. We are talking about railway communication between the two countries to the International Port of Turkmenbashi on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Access to the Caspian Sea will help Tajikistan to establish transport links with Europe in this area.
“The agreement also contributes to the strengthening of bilateral cooperation, an increase in trade between the two countries, the use of transit railways and the Turkmen port of Turkmenbashi across the Caspian Sea to access the railways of European countries,” the press service of the Parliament of Tajikistan said.
At the end of 2021, trade between the republics increased by more than 2.5 times. Turkmenistan is ready to expand cooperation with Tajikistan in the field of trade in products of the fuel and energy complex, construction and chemical industries, food, textile, pharmaceutical industries and agriculture.
