The first Azerbaijani cargo and passenger ferry visited Turkmenistan

The first Azerbaijani cargo and passenger ferry "Zarifa Aliyeva" of the Ro-Pax type visited the port of Turkmenbashi. On the first flight to the international port of Turkmenbashi, the vessel brought 16 heavy-duty vehicles and 20 cargo trailers. This route is still under test. In the future, the vessel will make one voyage per day, the Turkmenportal news website reports with a link to the MIR 24.

"In January–December 2022, the volume of transit cargo transported through the international seaport of Turkmenbashi increased by two and a half times compared to the same period last year" Yunus Kakabayev, Deputy head of the Logistics and Marketing Department of the International seaport of Turkmenbashi, told MIR 24 in an interview.

Currently, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are carrying out large-scale activities to fulfill the Caspian Sea potential. It is expected that the Zarifa Aliyev ferry will make a significant contribution to the expanding transportation of transit cargo through the Caspian Sea along the Lapis Lazuli Corridor.
