Candidate nomination begins for march elections in Turkmenistan

The nomination of candidates—one of the most critical stages of the election campaign—is currently underway in Turkmenistan for the elections scheduled for March 29, 2026.

As previously announced, this upcoming socio-political event includes elections for members of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) in newly formed districts (etrap) within the regions (velayat). It also includes elections to fill seats for outgoing deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, as well as members of regional, district, and city People's Councils and local councils (Gengesh).

During the nomination meetings, participants are proposing the most distinguished citizens as candidates—those who have proven their loyalty to the Motherland through their actions and who command respect within their labor collectives. Speakers have highlighted the candidates' professionalism, organizational skills, and high moral character, emphasizing their readiness to devote their efforts and knowledge to the implementation of large-scale state programs.
