During a digital meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on March 6, the Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, provided detailed information on the results of legislative activities carried out in the first two months of this year. As noted, systematic work is currently underway to modernize the country’s legal framework by introducing amendments and additions to the Code of Administrative Offenses, the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes, as well as several legislative acts related to migration, fishing, licensing, and accounting.
The Speaker of the Mejlis also touched upon the preparations for the elections to be held on March 29. Organizational and methodological assistance is being provided to election commissions to ensure the high-level organization of elections for members of provincial (velayat) people’s councils (halk maslahaty), Gengeshes, and members of the Mejlis to replace outgoing members in newly created districts. As part of these measures, socio-political efforts to explain election legislation are being intensified.
Regarding international cooperation, credentials were accepted from the newly appointed ambassadors of the Republics of Chad and Indonesia, and five bilateral meetings were held with foreign representative offices. Additionally, deputies and specialists of the Mejlis participated in 14 seminars on improving legislative work organized jointly with international organizations and conducted three foreign business trips to study international best practices.
Honorable President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the work being done to align national legislation with modern requirements is of great importance for the implementation of state programs. Noting the significance of the tasks facing parliamentarians, the Head of State instructed that work in this direction be continued systematically.
