A logistics center of Turkmenistan is planned to create in Astrakhan

Negotiations between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation on the establishment of a logistics center of Turkmenistan in the Special Economic Zone of Astrakhan’s port has been under construction since last year.

Some concrete steps were outlined following the results of the Turkmen-Russian business forum, during which a Memorandum of Intent was signed between JSC Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan and JSC “Special Economic Zone “Lotos” (RF) on the implementation of an investment project to create a logistics center of Turkmenistan in the Special Economic Zone of Astrakhan’s port.

According to the Memorandum, after the Turkmen side has prepared the project and conducted a preliminary assessment of the necessary investments, a roadmap for the implementation of the project will be developed and an agreement on the establishment of a logistics center will be concluded, "Turkmenistan: Golden Age” reports.

The appearance of the logistics center of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan will be an important incentive for the development of cargo transportation from Central Asia to Russia and back, the General Director of JSC “Special Economic Zone “Lotos” believes.

This will allow other countries with no direct access to the Caspian Sea connect to the North–South international transport corridor. Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have already expressed interest.
