Turkmenistan and India plan to establish cooperation between the Turkmenbashi and Chabahar ports

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the high-level meeting with President of India Ram Nath Kovind proposed to hold direct negotiations on cooperation between the Chabahar port and the International Sea Port of Turkmenbashi on April 2, reports the State news agency of Turkmenistan.

“Transport is a strategic area of bilateral cooperation. We agreed to assist in the construction of sustainable Eurasian corridors for access to Indian sea terminals from the territory of Turkmenistan, including through the existing infrastructure of our country in the Caspian Sea”, noted President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

This sea passage greatly contributes to strengthening between the two states and ensuring sustainable economic development in the region. Turkmenistan supports India’s initiative to establish a Joint Working Group to connect the Chabahar port with the North-South international transport corridor. India, in turn, supports the proposal of Turkmenistan to connect the International Sea Port of Turkmenbashi to this transport corridor.
